The Mighty Mississippi

This seems rather appropriate now.  I just ran across it when someone reminded me of Judy Henske and I looked for her on Youtube, and found this beautiful rendition of a song I love:





There is a also a great version of this by Irma Thomas (the Irma Thomas caption explains what the words really signify - a warning to escaped slaves that the dogs are being sent after them and they should get in the water to throw them off the scent)



And another great version, a classic Staple Singers:



Surprisingly, I found a Big Mama Thornton recording of this song and it was the first thing I've run across from her that I don't care for.

Prayers for all of those still in harm's (waters) way.
